New Tech Will Change How Video Slots Are Played

Slot machines have gone through several major changes in the past five decades. In the 1970s, they were purely mechanical, which meant the players needed to pull on a lever in order for the reels to spin. Although there are still some mechanical slots today, most of them are digital, hence the name change — slot machines have become video slots.

However, the latest developments in the tech industry are promising to change the nature of slots once again. New and exciting innovations in the casino industry have completely reshaped gambling, including video slots. In this article, we will take a look at some new tech that will change video slots forever.

3D and 4D Slots

Three-dimensional slots add extra depth to slot gaming — quite literally. Although video slots are not meant to impress players with their visuals but rather with huge monetary prizes, it is evident that graphically advanced games attract a large number of players.

3D slot games give greater value to the game since players can interact with the slot on another level, enjoying its beautifully depicted characters and numerous special effects.

There are also a few 4D slots in which you can use hand gestures in mid-air instead of touching anything to play and interact with the game. These are brand new on the market, and the most famous one released is IGT’s Ghostbusters 4D slot.

Virtual Reality

VR games have taken the video gaming world by storm during the previous several years. Being able to place yourself inside a game and play it is what the players demand these days from developers.

So the video slot industry decided to try out this new tech and give their customers a whole new way of spinning the reels. With a proper headset, you will be placed inside a virtual casino and be able to choose the games of your liking. It’s as close as you can get to visiting a real casino without actually being there physically.

There were even some mentions of augmented reality video slots, but that still hasn't quite caught on. Nevertheless, we might see further developments in the future.

Community Slots

Making casino games feel more like video games is definitely a direction in which the slot industry is going. Video slots are still mostly a single-player experience. It’s just the way they are conceptualised.

However, developers found a way to gamify their slots by introducing leaderboards where players can compare results, so it’s no longer you against the machine, but you against other players as well.

Rewards and Transactions

There has been a growing interest in progressive jackpots in recent years. These are slot games in which each player’s wagers are compiled to make a growing jackpot that keeps increasing until someone wins it.

Progressive slots are not exactly new but they keep growing in size each year. Just looking at the list of progressive jackpots on could make you wonder whether these games could soon overtake regular, fixed jackpot slots, as they are far more rewarding.

Speaking of rewards and money, the newest way of depositing and withdrawing from online casinos includes using cryptocurrencies. There are many video slots specifically designed for bitcoin transactions, and we will definitely see more of them in the upcoming years.
